  • What is the overall quality of material presentation?

    Material presentation is very good and easy to interpret and follow. There is sound biblical teaching throughout with this forming the basis of all other sections. Children constantly are encouraged to link what they are doing, with what the Bible verse is and the overall session layouts are diverse, fun and engaging for Sunday School teaching time.

    How clear are its aims and outcomes?

    The series is themed as a movie set with directors and TV shows linking to the Bible. This means aims are listed as “final cut” and “close up” for each session at the beginning of the lesson.

    How accessible are the leader’s notes?

    Leader notes are very accessible with word for word scripts for talks and transition material. The demonstrations are easy to do and leaders can choose the easier running order with all the digital videos, or present the digital material in their own style. Accessible online via download and can be printed if preferable too.

    Who could lead it?

    There are a range of tools for delivery in this series meaning that there are opportunities for a range of people to lead different parts. An experienced Children’s Worker should be the main coordinator, with help from keen actors, musicians and a teacher for the talk. As this material offers an option for the talk to be presented digitally, is also accessible for churches with less experienced leaders as the Bible teaching can be done at the press of a play button.

    How good is any digital material?

    All materials for this series are available digitally, including instructions, guidance, videos, dramas, small group discussion questions and relevant artwork to facilitate. The digital material is good but videos could be better quality so leaders may wish to act out the scenes themselves.

    How much prep will I have to do?

    Preparation is very short for this series, especially if the leader chooses to use the videos and not do the teaching themselves. All essential materials are provided and games do not need extra resources. Some extra materials are needed for setting the scene on stage or in the main area but that’s it. Access to a computer and projector is also vital to smoothly run this series.

  • How well does it encourage interaction with the group?

    Children interact with the leaders up on stage and with each other in small group discussion time. They also interact with one another at the end with a game.

    How well does it cater for a variety of both learning and delivery styles?

    This series has a good mix of material delivery. Children learn through skits, videos, listening and watching practical demonstrations to help them understand teachings. Every part of each the sessions is linked to the Bible teaching it is based on.

    How adaptable is it to my situation?

    This series has four sessions which focus on creation of people and salvation through Jesus and who he is. Each session lasts approximately 1.5 hours and has been designed for use in Sunday school, although it could also be used for after school clubs, or lunch clubs. The sessions must be run in chronological order as one leads on to the next. There is minimal extra resource needed, with the main thing to prepare being stage props and demonstrations as well as costumes. This means preparation should be very easy and minimal once all helpers have been allocated their roles and material has been read through. There are options for running the talk too, where the main teaching is scripted for the leader, or the easier option, which is playing the digital video provided of Kidamazoo Studios presenting the teaching. The games are easy and do not take up much space or preparation, and discussion questions are simple but age appropriate (leaders can add in more questions to make it more applicable to their group if needed). By accessing this resource via Disciplr, preparation time is further reduced, as multiple leaders can log in, add their thoughts to the syllabus and edit the running order without hassle. The changes are then accessible to anyone else on the team logging in. As this series is by an American Publisher, some references are more applicable to American children so will need to be exchanged for different phrases in other contexts.

    How well does it encourage people to work together in applying the material?

    Children gently apply the material during the small group discussion times by answering questions. They also read the Bible together after the main teaching and discuss it.

  • How much of the material is Bible-based?

    15 minutes of the session is spent on the main Bible teaching, with time for discussion and questions after.

    How well is the biblical material presented and used?

    Biblical material is presented by a choice of a video (pre filmed by Kidamazoo Studios) or by leaders following the script themselves. The demonstrations included in the main talk are explained for the leader to follow too and there is optional time for small group discussion.

    How well does it apply biblical material to everyday life?

    The small group discussion questions help children to link the resource to their own lives and take on board what it says about how they should live. For example, they are asked questions like “What will you do this week to show Jesus you are satisfied with Him?” encouraging children to bring God in to their daily lives. Leaders may want to add in specific scenario questions to link it to their audience and context too.

    Is there a particular theological perspective?

    The aim of Kidamazoo Studios and David C Cook is to bring children closer to Jesus in an accessible and accommodating way. This series does have a confession in each session which can be omitted if a specific ministry isn’t comfortable with this.

  • How well does it inspire people towards whole-life discipleship?

    Children are mostly encouraged towards whole life discipleship by thinking about how God can help them to help others. They learn the importance of people, and every session includes discussion on how to help others with God’s help.

    How well does it encourage and enable people to grow in their faith?

    This resource is a good one to use for churched and unchurched children as it focusses on Jesus and why people are precious to God. For example, session 1 outlines who God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are and explains their different roles. Children who do not know Jesus learn about him and why they are loved, while children familiar with this truth are encouraged to ask more questions and implement Jesus’ love in their lives more. This is done most during discussion questions, the videos and the teaching.

    How well does it stretch faith and vision of God and his purposes?

    This series emphasises God’s purposes by looking at Jesus, explaining who he is and exploring his significance in depth. This is made relevant to the children in the talks by drawing comparisons between Jesus and real life people who may let the children down. For example, session two focusses on God’s promises and how he fulfils them even when our friends and family may not keep their promises. This is achieved by reading John 7:37-38 and the leader explaining that this verse shows Jesus gives life, and that he is always the answer.

    How well does it connect with real life issues?

    The series draws comparisons between the children’s lives and how Jesus is always the answer. For example, maybe someone in the playground promised to play a game with them and didn’t, but Jesus always keeps his promises. Maybe we aren’t sure how to treat someone we don’t like? Jesus gives us the answer. This series is all about Jesus and how his life can change how we view and respond to challenges.

  • How well does it encourage personal evangelism?

    Personal Evangelism is encouraged gently throughout the series through small group discussion questions such as “How can you tell someone about Jesus overcoming the world this week?” once the children have learnt about God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit.

    How well does it encourage local or network-based community involvement?

    Children are challenged in sessions 2 & 3 to think about how they treat others and are asked questions like “How can you bless others this week?” to help them practically show their faith in their own communities.

    How well does it connect with global issues?

    Not a main focus for this series however children do learn that Jesus came to same all people.
