Growing Leaders Youth Edition is more than just another course. Over nine months, its comprehensive approach focuses on:
Through interactive teaching, mentoring and practical projects, Growing Leaders Youth Edition helps churches find and develop young leaders passionate for God’s work.
Growing leaders Youth Edition comes in a easy-to-store box which includes 11 separate folders, one for each of the 8 sessions plus folders for: introducing the course, mentoring, course projects. The box includes a CD-ROM which contains printable pdfs of all course materials (including leaders’ guides and handouts) as well as PowerPoint files for each of the sessions. The package also contains a copy of the book of the course, ‘Ready to Lead’ by Ruth Hassall.
The course is written for those between the ages of 14-18, who have a Christian faith and are interested in growing in Christian leadership. It would not be ideal for a whole youth group to study together because it very much focuses on leadership development, and not everyone in your group will be a leader. The course runs over 9 months, meeting once per month and meeting with an individual mentor between sessions. 7 sessions are designed to be run in 2 hours sessions, with 2 sessions designed for a 24 hour session.

The material is professionally produced and the layout is easy to follow. The leaders' notes connect well with the powerpoint files and participants' handouts, to make it easy for participants to follow.
The introductory guide is excellent at explaining exactly why and how to run the course and the hopes that this course will enable young people to grow in confidence in both their faith and their leadership.
The leader's notes are well laid out. Each session has its own folder which includes the leader's notes as well as the handouts to be given out. Each session has clear aims outlined, a Biblical base to help the leader prepare as well as background information on the session.
This course is easy to lead and the leader's notes enable even an inexperienced leader to lead this course well.
The handouts are clear and attractive. It is recommended to print them out in colour if possible. There is also a course book, which can be given to participants to provide a useful reminder of each of the sessions. One copy of this book is included in the pack.
The CD-ROM is well laid out and it is easy to find the files that you need. The PowerPoint presentations have a consistent style and helps people to connect quickly with each session.
The leader will need to spend time reading through the leader's notes for each session and making sure that they understand what they are teaching. There is a requirement to find a couple of video clips in a couple of sessions.
There is a postcard enclosed which enables the leader to sign up for website support which includes ideas from other leaders to personalise the material as well as other activities and ideas to use the course.
No, but it is designed as a course running once per month over 9 months.
Each session includes a variety of opportunities to work in groups, unpacking a Bible study, creative responses and discussions.
The pace of each session is fast-moving and features a mixture of up-front teaching and personal exploration. There are craft activities, drama and discussion. There are also opportunities for private reflection and prayer.
This course would be very easy to adapt to any situation, provided the leader knows their young people and what would work for them best.
Each participant is supposed to have an adult mentor for the course who they meet with between each session so they can discuss areas of growth and how they can apply the material to their own lives.
The course is based on a biblical model of leadership and each session includes a Bible study and teaching coming from that study.
The material is presented in an engaging style and is often presented by asking the young people to explore the passages with some searching questions and then sharing their thoughts, as well as the leader then being able to add to this discussion with clear direction.
The course is very practical and each session is built around helping the participant to apply their learning to their life immediately.
The course is based on helping the young people grow closer to Jesus so that by his Spirit they can lead better and enable others to encounter Jesus.
This is an excellent discipleship resource. The first 4 sessions focus on the life of the leader and are useful for enabling the participant to go deeper in their walk with God.
The course is based around the principle that to be effective in leadership, the leader needs to be growing in their faith, so each session is very practical in helping them to grow in their faith.
The course includes material to explore how Jesus led and to his plans for building his church. There are opportunities to discover more of how God has designed individuals, their personalities, talents and spiritual gifts, and how he wants to use them to fulfil his purposes.
The material is based on developing Christian leaders in all areas of life where they are now, whether that is leading in a church, school or community setting.
The course aims to build confidence in the participant so that they are in a better position to share their faith.
One of the principles of the course is to lead in community and there is a whole session on working as a team.
The seventh session explores the suffering church and helps individuals to find out more about the persecuted church around the world.
There is a clear focus throughout the course on becoming better leaders so that they can enable the church to reach out more effectively.
